Getting to know Reggie Altidor, an impressive director changing all the rules for the better in the world of cinema

In this highlight we turn our attention to Reginald Altidor, a gifted actor and director making impressive strides within the film community. I was fortunate enough to work with Reggie on one of his short films, PRESSURE a hood drama about an ex convict who comes back home and is forced to make a life altering decision. Working with Reginald was a real treat as he paid attention to the details and was very collaborative with the actors to ensure the scene would come out the best that it could be. I asked Reginald a series of questions, here are his responses;

Tell us a little about yourself, where your from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended, etc.

I grew up in New Rochelle, New York . I attended Westchester Community college, transferred to Brooklyn College where I received my bachelors in Film Production.

What inspired you to get into acting and directing? Early experiences worth sharing?

As a creative the inspiration started very young. As a child without cable I spent a lot of time watching old VHS tapes of Threes company. I also had a huge infatuation with Dragon Ball Z and The Chappelle show. Often times me and my friends would reenact our favorite skits. As time went on, it matured into original ideas.

Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.

I do remember being highly underestimated at times in Film school. My graduating project was behind schedule and over budget. When it was believed I couldn’t make the deadline. Well, I did and the film ended up being one of best to come out that class. (I may be biased on how good the film was, but I got it done.

What do you believe sets you apart from other actors and directors?

I feel that I’ve dabbled in almost every creative element of the filmmaking process, this gives me a different perspective when approaching a character or project. Being an independent director has taught me how to communicate with actors.

Being an independent writer has enhanced the ability to break down a scene and understand what it’s about. Therefore allowing myself as an actor to understand the beats of the Scene and how to react.

Do you have other interests or hobbies?

I was strictly about filmmaking and realized that wasn’t healthy, at least for me. So for the last 5 years, aside from regular exercise basketball has been my release. It kind of sucks because all my friends put their hoop dreams to rest and here I am trying to reenact the Last Dance.

Any projects you have out or or currently working on?

I recently came on board for an independent short film called “In My Bag” where I am the supporting lead.

I myself , finished writing a short thriller which we plan to film in the near future. Also a couple of television pilots I want to shop around.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

That question always gets me because I’ll say something prestigious like, “getting my first Oscar” and fast forward to reality, I’m in subway arguing the price of a turkey sandwich.

Let’s just say “further in my creative process”. One day at time for me.

What advice can you give in regards to individuals looking to enter your line of work?

Be prepared to fail. It’s apart of the process. It’s what makes the wins so gratifying. Stay motivated and positive. Also, your relationships in this business determine how far you go.
