In this highlight we turn our attention to Biz LaChance, a talented artist within Upstate, New York’s film scene. I asked Biz a series of questions, here is what we discussed:

Tell us a little about yourself, where your from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended, etc.

I grew up within the city limits of Rochester, NY. I graduated high school (School of the Arts) and college (Monroe Community College) there as well.

What inspired you to be an entertainer? Early experiences worth sharing?

When I was younger people always told me I’d entertain. I love to keep people in a state of happiness. When I was in middle and high school, I used to make short pointless films. Gather my friends to act and shoot, get some props, butcher a storyline, and edit it on a VCR (real pro stuff) using aux cables!

But the passion and desire to create followed me into my adult life. It waited by patiently for me to handle other life matters before pursuing it full-time.

Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.

I was recently working on a very high profile set and was injured.

Someone was recklessly driving and tipped a vehicle I was riding as a passenger in. I broke several bones in my foot and toes, and managed to get not one, but two surgeries because of severe friction burns (road rash) on my arm.

Due to unfortunate circumstances of the accident there was a long road of recovery that kept me from doing any sort of acting, producing or any other type of outlet in my passion.

Because of my arm I couldn’t write or type on a computer to produce scripts or stories. The bones in my foot were broken at an angle and cannot heal in a way that will allow me to walk without a limp. The skin grafts I had to get have left severe scaring on my right forearm. Not ideal for being on your feet for hours, or being in front of the camera.

Luckily film and production creation has many avenues and I’ve managed to keep myself busy in a number of ways. Some have been by helping link actors with gigs, finding locations, reading scripts and providing feedback and anything that keeps me relevant in the game!

What do you believe sets you apart from other actors/writers?

I’ve grown up impersonating actors, comedians and even cartoons. This makes it possible to mix and match different comedic, dramatic, and even emotional habits to give a performance (in front of and/or behind the camera) that no ones ever seen. The audience finds it unique and people want more of it! I’ve been invested and learning about the film and acting industry for over 10 years and never have I even thought of another passion to fill my time and thoughts with when they’re free.

Do you have other interests or hobbies?

Honestly I spend my time with my family, either making memories or just enjoying each other. My wife and I go to the gym and try to have as much fun and laughter in our down time as possible. We workout together and spend every moment I’m not on set with our daughters! #PerfectLife

Any projects you have out or or currently working on?

I am working on a few projects.

I’m in conjunction with another local artist working to get a podcast off the ground about a serious and needed to be discussed topic.

I also have a fiction story in the works…not sure if it’ll be a script or another novel but it will reveal all in good time.

Lastly I’ve been working on networking as more than just an actor, writer, and producer. I have knowledge and resources that help all the different departments and people that makes films, plays, and general entertainment possible. Why would I want to hoard that knowledge? It’s crucially important that when you get to the top, you help others follow your lead.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

I would like to be creating (still) and teaching others how to find the resources they may feel are out of reach.

What advice can you give to aspiring actors/writers?

Just go for it! Find a small gig to get your feet wet and always remain egoless! Soooo many factors go into casting and shooting that you CAN NOT, I repeat CAN. NOT. Take it personally, or even hard professionally if you don’t get a role or the casting director goes another direction. Sometimes you can be perfect but you and the lead look too much a like, or maybe not enough a like. Sometimes the silliest projects pay off better in experience, than others that carry a big name to attract attention pay off in dollars.

How can we follow along in your journey? Social media?

I tend to share the most about my acting and production stuff through Instagram @The_Biz_Show

My other social media accounts are:

@RealLifeBiz — Twitter

Facebook.com/CMBizLaChance

YouTube.com/poopenhymer

I’m also on Snapchat! But let ’s leave some things a mystery, shall we?
