In this highlight we turn our attention to Kelly Mulvihill an actress and model in the industry. I asked Kelly a series of questions, here is what we discussed;

Tell us a little about yourself, where your from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended etc.

I was born and raised in “upstate” New York. Well, it’s not really considered “upstate,” in that it’s just about a hour and a half north, but to anyone in the five boroughs it is definitely a different world, haha. I was always an academic and an athlete growing up. I graduated top of my class in high school and college, took college classes my senior year of high school, played varsity sports all year round, was in every club that I knew existed, etc. The only thing I didn’t seems to dabble in was the arts and entertainment. Oh, the irony. That changed when I went to college and pursued a graphic design and Spanish double major, after diverting from my original path of marine biology, then math and econ, and then psychology. I’m a super curious person and love learning, so it was hard for me to choose one path or major. Still no performing, don’t worry haha. I graduated from Skidmore College in 2015, and got my first job as a professional graphic designer later that year.

What inspired you to be get into the industry? Early experiences worth sharing?

I have always had a passion for entertaining and performing, but I never considered it a viable profession. That is, until I took my first acting class for fun in NYC about two years ago. After taking that class on a whim, I decided to research acting agencies for fun. In between working as a designer and learning to code, I actually decided to attend an open call I found online, for fun! I prepared a script, looked up “what do acting resumes look like” on google, and went for it. Part of that acting audition was “acting” like I was a seasoned professional. I honestly didn’t expect anything besides a new experience, and having a fun day out in the city. I am very lucky, in that I got a callback from that open call and ended up signing with my first agency! After I started consistently auditioning and booking, and getting into modeling through my agency, I realized that if I work hard enough I may actually have a chance to do what I LOVE to do, all of the time. After so much thought, deliberation, and late night conversations with friends and family, I knew that if I didn’t at least try, I would always regret it. So, here I am! =D

Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.

I face adversity and conflict on a daily basis. This is NOT an easy industry to be in, and it takes its toll on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. You really have to love what you are doing, and have that undeniable passion to keep you going when things get tough. It’s a roller coaster ride of very high highs and pretty low lows, but pursuing an art form through which I can truly express myself is worth it! I really can’t imagine myself doing anything else at this point.

What do you believe sets you apart from other entertainers?

My unique background and skillset differentiates me from other entertainers. My diverse academic and athletic background gives me a unique perspective which informs my craft. Although I believe formal training and arts education are very important, I believe life experience and intellectual/cultural richness are equally important. Sometimes, I regret not having pursued my passion for acting more formally earlier in my life. But, I also think having degrees in other areas and having other life passions ultimately improves my career as an actress and model.

Do you have other interests or hobbies?

Haha, I have WAY too many interests and hobbies! I’ll always love graphic and web design, and I’m also a professional coder now! I love technology, and the way that art and technology intersect. I’m also really into marine biology, Spanish language and culture, cats, psychology, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, running, history, reggaeton music, and … yeah. I’ll stop there. Haha.

Any projects you have out or currently working on?

Yes! I’m constantly working on new projects. Recently I’ve been doing a lot of commercial work. I just filmed a promo for NBC sports, did some content for Bare Minerals makeup, among other exciting things! Follow my instagram to see what I’m up to @kmulisakitty! I’m also currently working on transitioning from being heavily involved in the commercial world to the film and television sphere, which I’m super passionate and excited about!

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I would like to see myself working as a full time professional film and television actress. I would LOVE to be cast as a series regular on a period drama!

What advice can you give to aspiring entertainers?

Work your butt off. And remind yourself of your passions. As an actor, you are a professional auditioner. Love the process, and have fun doing it! Enjoy =D Love each other, be kind, and trust God!

How can we follow along in your journey? Social media?

Yes! Follow me on instagram to see what I’m up to! @kmulisakitty, and look out for my new website coming soon! kellymulvihill.com
