In this article we turn our attention to Korry O’Brien, a talented and tenacious aspiring actor and model creating his own legacy within the community.

Tell us a little about yourself, where you are from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended, etc.

My name is Korry O’Brien Jackson and I grew up in Rochester, NY. I have lived and visited a ton of other places but I am Rochester born and raised. I briefly attended SOTA but graduated from Northwest College Preparatory High School NWCP). I attended a small private school in Buffalo, NY called Medaille College, where I received my Bachelors in Psychology studying behavioral and cognitive psychology. I am a HUGE gamer and love dogs more than people but I am still very much a people person. Anything else that you would like to know, ask,I am an open book!

What inspired you to get into acting and modeling? Early experiences worth
sharing?

I was inspired to get into modeling and acting by my photographer and friend Adam who created Rochester Artist Collaborative. My inspiration comes from multiple sources such as watching high end and local fashion shows, being a massive fan of progressive fashion and my background with Broadway. I started out by being a part of Rochester Broadway Theatre League or RBTL, and my love for the two art forms only evolved from there. Watching current actors/shows and being able to recreate or reenact certain
scenes or monologues gave me the confidence to pursue it on a professional level.

Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.

I cannot say that I face conflict frequently unless it is related to my job/career. Working in the mental health field often times presents conflict on a multitude of levels. Adversity/conflict in my personal life only comes in the form of people trying to prevent me from chasing my dreams. I was always told that I could not model because of my height or because no one from Rochester is destined to be an international model — and now I am actively pursuing my dreams to be a model and actor despite how people may feel.

What do you believe sets you apart from other actors and models?

I believe that my upbringing, along with previous obstacles that I have overcome and the life path that I have chosen, sets me apart from other models and actors. And not in the “I’m from a small town” sense, but because of my personal journey. Being the youngest of 3 boys, raised primarily by my mother and also being the only family member that identified as LGBTQ+ in my family at a young age…it was a battle on its own; but it has not been enough to defeat me. If anything, it has opened my eyes to the world in a general sense; the extent of my eclecticism is unknown even to myself.

Do you have other interests or hobbies?

Quite a bit actually! I am a professional dancer, singer, graphic artist and natural comedian. I enjoy gaming (board games and video games), cooking and baking (which I am amazing at), and reading. Anything that is a good time or positive vibes, I can enjoy!

Any projects you have out or currently working on?

I am currently working on an online cooking show with another influencer. I cannot disclose too much information but it will definitely be super popular and my hope is that it will open some doors for me. I am also working with a friend of mine to choreograph beginners level voguing classes. This project is early in the planning stage but is set to be executed within the next few months.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I see myself thriving in every sense; I see me living comfortably and having a ton of credentials behind my name. I’m talking both academic and in the industry. I will either have my next degree and will be moving on to the next script or show opportunity, or I will be working toward my next degree while still doing the former.

What advice can you give in regards to individuals looking to enter your line of work?

Be fearless. Let the director/producer tell you no and not your peers…and even then, keep pushing. Only you and your dedication will land you where you want to be.

How can we follow along in your journey? YouTube? Social media? Sites?

I currently have the mainstream social media sites, all social media aside from Facebook is @ouMiniNinja. My Facebook is Korry Jackson and I will be creating a new Youtube once this cooking show takes off so stay tuned!
