Introducing James Catapano a.k.a. LordPhat; Comedian, Writer and founder of Mixing Chemicals Media
Tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended, etc.
I moved around a lot. I’m originally from Brooklyn, NY. I also lived in New Jersey and in Texas. My mom raised three children and adopted two. I attended Brooklyn Studio High School, and then went on to Kingsborough College for Broadcasting. After only one year of college, I decided to go to I.A.R. (Institute of Audio Research). That’s where I studied audio engineering
What inspired you to be a Writer, Comedian AND Audio Engineer? Early experiences worth sharing?
I wanted to entertain people. I have always felt like I had a great imagination and creative personality, and I want to share it with the world.
Talk about a time where you have faced adversity or conflict and have triumphed.
I had a very hard time graduating High School, because I had a learning disability. It took me an extra year to finish. My mom told me if I didn’t complete high school, then I would have a hard time completing other stuff in my adult life.
What do you believe sets you apart from other writers, entertainers, and audio engineers?
Being myself and being original.
Do you have any other interests or hobbies?
I’m very into Aquariums. I own a 75 Gallon fish tank with 3 Beautiful Japanese Koi fish. I always find it relaxing to watch fish swim back and forth in crystal clear water.
Any projects you have out or are currently working on?
I currently have two instrumental albums out, entitled “Mixing Chemicals” and “Mixing Chemicals 1.5”. I have artists that I also have mixed for; Produced for; and collaborated with, like: Joell Ortiz, Corey Gunz, Saigon, Ill Bill, Fred The Godson, Chris Rivers, Mallory Knox, L.A.V., LOCH, Rite Hook, Illmind and Architype. I also have 2 comedy music videos that are extremely hilarious, called: “Balding” and “Masterbate.” I’m also currently working on a new instrumental album with my new studio partner E Class, which I am actually extremely excited about.
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
Being a great father and running a successful recording studio.
What advice can you give to aspiring writer, entertainers, and audio engineers?
1. It’s going to get hard. You’ve got to really believe in yourself and be your own support team.
2. If you get an opportunity, take it, because there are very few. With that being said, I have a workshop in my studio every Wednesday, entitled Workshop Wednesdays. It is held every other week, between 12:30 and 2pm. The workshops focus on Networking, Writing, Music Production, and Audio Engineering.
