Introducing Natalie Gordon, a skillful make up artist making a bright impact within the community

In this article we turn our attention to Natalie Gordon, a gifted make up artist within the community. I asked Natalie a series of questions, here are her responses;

Tell us a little about yourself, where your from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended, etc.

My name is Natalie Gordon, I am from Rochester N.Y., born and raised. I graduated from Rochester academy charter school in 2013. After graduating high school I thought my life would go in the direction of the medical field, so I applied to MCC for the nursing program, but I knew my passion ( at the time) was doing hair, so I applied to Continental school of Beauty for the cosmetology program & graduated in 2015 with my cosmetology license. I did hair for about two years and realized I did not enjoy it as much as I did before, so I was discouraged and started working in the customer service/dispatch field. In 2018 I started my job at spectrum cable, and at the same time I was going through a tough breakup which encouraged me to get into my makeup. I’ve always had a passion for art.

In grade school, I used to get calls home because instead of taking the test like a normal child, I was the one drawing on them. So in 2018 I was reintroduced to my creative side, I began using my body as my canvas. It all started with just playing in makeup and taking pictures and videos here and there, & going live on social media a lot. I started creating makeup tutorials on Youtube. When I was able to do my first client, it was like the best feeling ever. I fell in-love with the way I could make a person feel so beautiful, with using my artistic skills. And from there I’ve gained so many beautiful clients & supporters, and partners at RAAB ENTERTAINMENT.

What inspired you to get into makeup? Early experiences worth sharing?

My family is really talented in the beauty industry. Most of us do hair & makeup. Or we have a thing for the fashion world. I had to be about 11 years old when I got my first taste of makeup, when i got into my second oldest sisters makeup collection & basically destroyed it lol.

Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.

In 2015, I lost my favorite person in the whole wide world, & it took a huge toll on my mental, as well as my family. Having to function every day life with my grandfather was very hard to do but it pushed me to do better for myself because he always told me how great I was & was going to be. So I try to keep him proud of me.

What do you believe sets you apart from other makeup artists?

I believe what sets me apart from other artist is my creativity & my spirit. I’m mot just an makeup artist, I’m a creator, I tell a story with my work. I stay focus on the prize, which is continuing growing my skills. My clients get more than just being dolled up with me, they also gain a friend. I tell them my room is their sanctuary, & its judgement free.

Do you have other interests or hobbies?

I absolutely love anything artistic. I paint on canvas. I also draw. And when i have a chance I create dope Tik Tok’s and tutorials.

Any projects you have out or or currently working on?

At this time I am currently working on my new makeup studio, and more content & products to put out. Stay tuned

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I would love to be on a movie set creating cool special effects, and doing makeup for talented actors and actresses. I would love to have my own shop of beautiful talented artist who has the same creative drive as me.

What advice can you give in regards to individuals looking to enter your line of work?

Stay focused, do not get caught up in who supports you, how many views likes & shares you get, do not get discouraged where you may be now, look at the bigger picture. Keep going.
